Day Twenty-Two

DAY TWENTY-TWO

Today we are continuing to look at what I believe is the number one faith healer, the thing that actually can both ignite faith, and multiply the faith that we have been given and that is the Word of God. The Bible actually says that hearing God’s Word, produces faith in the hearer, the person who seeks to understand what is being said.

Romans 10:17

17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God

The Word of God is foundational to the development and sustaining of our faith. This is not surprising when we link this together with John 1:14 which boldly declares;

 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

And I love this description of the Word in flesh from Revelation 19:11-13

Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God

Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, and a relationship with Him ignites the creative power of faith in our lives, that produces something from nothing and creates and breathes life into the things that we hope for.

The disciples experienced this even before Jesus went to the cross, in a conversation in John 15:3 Jesus declared to His disciples; “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.”

Jesus cleanses us, His Word cleanses us as we read it; it aligns our hearts with Kingdom principles. I love how Hebrews chapter 4 describes the Word as a surgical instrument.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I don’t know if you can tell but I LOVE God’s Word I developed a love for it as a child…..(we didn’t have television growing up and it was the only book I could read over and over again and still not know what was going to jump out at me next!) It was from reading God’s word that I came to into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and it is that Word that I hid in my heart that kept my path straight, as I have navigated life.

I’m not going to lie, there are times when I’m reading it, and I’m challenged that I’m not actually doing what it says. When that happens I allow the Word to be like a knife that surgically cuts away the things that don’t belong, it can be uncomfortable but I know that God is true and my heart is deceitfully wicked and that if I trust His word over my emotions or discomfort I will always come out the other end healthy and whole.

Think about what makes you uncomfortable in God’s Word and take a moment to commit to really hearing the truth it is teaching and allow it to correct you, cleanse you, and build strength into a weak area of your faith today
