Day Twenty-Seven

Pastor Jane Evans   -

Just recently Spotify released a summary of my years listening in a snap shot. The notification came up on my phone while my son had my phone in his hand, and he was quite shocked that his “none musical mother” had exceeded his listening time, by quite a long way!  He was also quite impressed that I could tell him the top 5 worship bands I have listened to in the last year, in the right order! I’ve always been someone who is intentional about what I listen to; it’s not that I’m more spiritual; I genuinely NEED to make sure the atmosphere around me is one of worship just to survive! I can get trapped in my head a lot easier these days; I can get negative, critical and anxious as quick as the next person, and in my job that’s not a good thing.

For me, the only way to stay faith filled and God centered is to listen to worship, its on in my car when I’m driving and its on at home when I’m in working. The thoughts and musings of my mind are forced to focus on God, on His strength, love, peace, and magnificence rather than the petty thoughts of self-pity, frustration, or indignation. Worship is a faith healer. Paul encouraged the Christians in Ephesus to make music to the Lord in their hearts.

Ephesians 5:18-20

18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible says that Satan, before his fall used to be the director of worship in heaven, and gives him the title of the Prince of the Power of the air. If I feel like there is tension in my house, I will immediately put on worship. Its hard to stay angry after worshipping Jesus; its hard to stay anxious, or negative. There is something about worship that puts God in His rightful place in our lives, it feeds our faith;waters it and makes it grow, and brings perspective to everything that we face.

Today spend extra time listening to, and participating in, worship. Determine to make worship a regular part of your day everyday, whenever you feel like your faith is shrinking, feed it with worship.
