Day Thirty-Nine
DAY THIRTY NINE
Supplement your faith
From my nursing days, I know that as we age our bodies become less efficient at absorbing many nutrients, add this to less adventurous diets, more processed foods, and a decrease in stomach acid, it seems prudent to enhance your diet with supplements. This ensures that the energy you need to live a full life is available to you on the cellular level. The Apostle Peter encourages us to supplement our faith, or add to it in the same way that many voices singing the same song, and many dancers dancing the same choreography, add emphasis and power to a performance.
2 Peter 1:3-7
3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
These things listed are the recommended supplements of faith; they add emphasis and power to our faith and make our faith LOUDER to those who are in our audience.
- Moral excellence,
- Knowledge,
- Self-control,
- Patient endurance,
- Godliness,
- Love for other ‘Christ followers’
- Love for everyone.
The message Bible says it beautifully,
Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust.
5–9 So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus.
